Who we are
Metal is an arts organisation based in Liverpool, Southend-On-Sea and Peterborough. We work in a supportive role with artists providing time and space for them to develop their practice. We were founded in London by Jude Kelly in 2002. In 2004 we moved to Liverpool and are now based at Edge Hill Station, the oldest passenger station in the world. Metal can offer support to schools in a number of ways: we hold regular events and cultural activities for the station buildings on platform 1 and 3 including artist network events involving talking / sharing practice opportunities alongside meeting industry specialists; regular visual art exhibitions including Liverpool Art Prize and Liverpool Biennial; and an artist in residence programme which can give opportunities for individuals to learn more about specific practice through unique contact via Metal. We can also deliver workshops in schools along with practicing artists. We are an Arts Award supporter offering opportunities to get involved in many fantastic creative activities.
