Who we are
Altru is a creative education organisation specialising in using drama to build confidence, develop skills and deliver messages. We have been delivering drama projects and performances for the past 10 years, in schools and other education settings across the UK. Our work is designed to bring the curriculum to life and to help children engage with complex, challenging and sensitive subjects. Each year work with hundreds of schools, delivering both ‘off the shelf’ projects, including Play in a Days and performances, and bespoke projects and pieces of work that are created to meet the needs of individual schools and their pupils. The work we do with schools has a significant and lasting benefit, as teachers consistently tell us that their pupils are more confident, demonstrate improved motivation and are excited about learning. We’ve been established since 2005, when Kate Cotterell – a former teacher with a passion for creativity and personal development – decided to set up a new organisation that would bring creativity into schools, help teachers make learning fun and give children the opportunity to learn in a creative way. Since then, we’ve grown year on year and our team is now filled with drama and education specialists who all bring something different to the team, enabling us to tackle a diverse and ambitious range of projects each year. Our practitioners are specialists and the work we deliver is designed to be inspirational, exciting, challenging and fun. We believe children learn best when they are having fun and when they feel comfortable and confident, and this ethos underpins everything we do. Our experience is vast and varied, we love a challenge and we love bringing learning to life. If you are interested in how drama can have a positive and lasting impact on the pupils in your school, then please do get in touch to talk about the ways that we can work together.
